What is a coalescing filter?
A separator is a vessel for the bulk removal of liquids or solids by gravity. Coalescing gas separators are designed specifically for removing mist, fog and dust from the gas stream. These contaminants are usually smaller than 10 microns. Standard separators or scrubbers are not capable of effectively removing these minute particles. As the filter collects contaminants, differential pressure across the filter will rise. Filters should be changed when the differential reaches 10-15 PSI.
Operators prefer to utilize a coalescing filter over other separators when the well streams have contaminants or particulates that require <15 micron filter. These units can be easily managed to remove particulates and contaminants in the well stream. With these reasons it is important to have properly functioning parts and filters because without them it is just a pressure vessel.
What parts go to a coalescing filter?
CROFT Supply.com focuses on parts that are utilized for separators dedicating an equipment category for all parts utilized for separators. Below you will find a brief description of the coalescing separator parts:
1.Liquid Level Controllers - buoyant object that rises with liquid to activate a “dump” valve (drain valve)
2.Dump Valves - A valve that is opened by controller to drain the liquids from a vessel
3.Gauge Valve Sets - These valves are used when replacing a broken sight glass to isolate process fluid.
4.Sight Glass - located on the outside of a separator and allows you to view liquid level
5.Temperature Gauges - are designed to show process temperature.
6. Thermowell- Thermowells are designed to block the process fluid and to be a connection port for temperature gauges.
7.Pressure Gauges - are designed to show process pressure.
8.Vent Caps - The PSV cap is used to protect the PSV from rainwater. This vent cap also has a whistle vent integrated for low amounts of pressure relieving that is usually not noticeable.
9.Pressure Safety Valves - a pressure relief valve set to a certain pressure that will open if vessel pressure exceeds set pressure
10.Filters - Filters are designed to remove solid or liquid impurities from process stream.
